unlock art - SF moma

“It is not hard to understand modern art. If it hangs on a wall, it's a painting; if you can walk around it, it's a sculpture.”

wHAT TO EXPECT

10 WORKS OF ART • 8 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS • SOMETHING FOR ALL YOUR SENSES

Explore the isms of art. Art History is not a linear tale. However, many moments and movements have had a defining impact on the story of Western art. In this first session, we take a visual journey through Fauvism to Pop Art, stopping along the way to take in Cubism, Orphosim, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism so you can identify connections between the ideas, styles, and people behind the art. Meet at SFMoma

“ I had no idea a museum tour could be so engaging. I am so used to waiting to be told what the right answer is but this was totally different, I was blown away.” - Kia, Marin

FEEDBACK

“I create for a living, and I haven’t done this with a piece of art in a long time—just be still with it and look at it. It was wonderful to hear others’ comments and to react to something together. I feel we don’t do that enough as a society—allow ourselves time to sit in silence and reflect on something. It felt really good and I’m so glad I did this.”

“I enjoyed how abstract it was. No right answers and a lot of listening. A very thoughtful experience”

“I loved how others were able to vocalize exactly what I was thinking while others interpreted art pieces completely differently. It also reminded me that everyone brings something different to a conversation”
